My first job was back in 2002 as an "undergraduate fellow" at the Astronomy Department in the University of São Paulo, where I was enrolled as an undergraduate student in Architecture and Urban Planning. At that time I was an active amateur astronomer who systematically observed the sky and reported data of variable stars, comets, eclipses and sunspots to various organisations around the globe. That was my main hobby. The astronomical data was several times listed in professional publications such as the International Astronomical Union Circulars, the International Comet Quarterly and various websites like the AAVSO (American Association of Variable Star Observers), VSNET (Variable Stars Network) and AFOEV (Association Française des Observateurs d'Étoiles Variables), a proof that I was very committed to what I was doing. In my heart I wanted to dedicate my time to astronomy and getting a job in the area was a dream coming true. In my first job I was involved in various education and outreach activities for a project called "Observatórios Virtuais", which later became "Telescópios na Escola". I helped mainly in the development and update of their web sites and educational content. From time to time I would also help with telescope and camera tests and with the organisation of workshops for high school teachers and undergraduate students.
After graduating in Architecture and Urban Planning (my thesis was coding in PhP and MySQL an academic social media platform for professors and students in landscape architecture, back in 2005) I applied for an internship in graphic design at the Hubble Space Telescope Information Centre at the European Space Agency in Germany and I was accepted. After the internship I was hired as a web developer/content specialist and started to work on multiple other web sites, for the International Astronomical Union and eventually for the European Southern Observatory.
